Licentiate Diploma

Licentiate Teachers hold a Licentiate Diploma.  The Licentiate Diploma is the standard teacher’s accreditation provided by the AICD.  You can become a Licentiate by either:

Requirements for the Licentiate Diploma

In order to become a Licentiate Diploma holder, you must:

  • Be 21 years or over;
  • Hold an Associate Diploma qualification;
  • Be accredited by the AICD as having prepared and entered students for examination who have subsequently obtained Commended, Highly Commended or Honours over a minimum of three years;
  • Pass the Licentiate Diploma Demonstration class which includes a 1.5-hour non-syllabus class, 30 minutes of questions, present a solo work that you have choreographed and submit a 2,000 work History of Dance in Australia essay prepared in their own time; and
  • Have references from previous examiners/assessors stating that their students were of a standard required by the AICD for Licentiate Diploma;
Privileges of the Licentiate Diploma

Teachers holding a Licentiate Diploma may submit students at all levels to examinations.

 

Becoming a Licentiate Teacher:  The Licentiate Diploma Exam

If you are applying to the AICD to become a Licentiate Teacher of the Borovansky Syllabus you need to do the following:

  1. We recommend that you have a Teacher/Mentor that is familiar with teaching the Borovansky Syllabus. Typically this is the teacher that you completed your Associate Diploma with.
  2. Get a Working with Children Check that is appropriate for the State in which you are teaching.
  3. When you are ready to perform your Licentiate Diploma Demonstration Class,  send us your CV; a Reference from your Teacher/Mentor; and a completed Application Form.  The Application Form may be downloaded here. 
  4. Pay the New Licentiate Teacher Fee using the Membership Payments Page  .
  5. The National Examination Coordinator will contact you regarding the Licentiate Diploma Demonstration class.

The Artistic Director and the National Committee may waive any or all of the above requirements based on prior professional dance or teaching experience; or circumstance. 

Becoming a Licentiate Teacher:  Recognition of Prior Skill

If you are transferring from another Syllabus as a Licentiate, you need to do the following:

  1. Get a Working with Children Check that is appropriate for the State in which you are teaching.
  2. Send us a copy of the completed Application Form, your CV and copies of your Syllabus Certification. The Application Form may be downloaded here. 
  3. Pay the New Licentiate Teacher Fee using the Membership Payments Page  .
  4. The Artistic Director will contact you and confirm whether your application has been successful or unsuccessful.

The Artistic Director and the National Committee may waive any or all of the above requirements based on prior professional dance or teaching experience; or circumstance.
