Important Information for A.I.C.D. Teachers and Students
As we are now in the process of converting to the use of Emails for all future correspondence, the following rules will apply:
EFFECTIVE AS FROM 1st January 2012
1. All Teacher Membership payments to go to the P.O. Box 193 Winston Hills NSW 2153. (You must forward a copy of the Membership Form which is to be completely filled out).
2. Teachers and Students are responsible to notify the Membership Secretary if they are no longer continuing as Members (so that our Email list can be kept up-to-date).
3. (a) All payments, be it Products or Membership, must be made payable to A.I.C.D INC by Cheque or Money Order (CASH IS NOT ACCEPTABLE; it is illegal to send money through the post).
(b) Teacher Membership to be paid no later than 31 August each year.
(c) Student Membership to be forwarded with relevant year Membership Form and a Cheque or Money order made payable to A.I.C.D. Student Membership Forms are to be handed directly to the students' teacher prior to the Studio applying for examination dates.
4. Payment for Examinations is to be made directly to the Teacher of the Studio who, in turn, then sends ONE CHEQUE FOR FULL AMOUNT OF STUDIO ENTRIES to A.I.C.D. INC.
5. The orders for any Products are to be directed to Barbara Komazec at 56 George St. Norwood S.A. 5067.
6. All correspondence to do with Exams must be forwarded to the address given on the Examination Forms and relevant correspondence.
7. Any other correspondence to be sent to the President.
8. If there is any change in your postal address or email adress please advise immediately.

Student Membership
Student Membership has to be taken out by students who have passed their Level 6 Exam to enable them to continue taking the Major Levels in the Borovansky system.

Houston Scholarship 2011
Harley Campbell was this year's winner of the scholarship at The Australian Institute of Classical Dance Scholarship. Her prize entailed a full Scholarship to Houston Ballet Academy's Intensive 6 Week Summer Program and included return airfares to Houston Texas USA, free tuition, meals and accommodation.
Thank you to The Australian Institute of Classical Dance, without this fantastic opportunity, Harley would not have been offered a full scholarship to continue her training at the Ben Stevenson Academy.

I spent six weeks at the Houston Ballet Academy Summer Intensive Program. It sure was intense!
I had the most amazing experience and met so many new people. The Houston Ballet has recently just opened up their brand new building The Centre For Dance which is an incredible six story building with a connecting bridge to the Wortham Theatre where the Houston Ballet Company performs. We danced from 9am to around 5.30pm everyday and our classes included classical ballet technique, pointe, variations, pilates, pas de deux, repertoire, nutrition, dance fitness, modern, jazz, character and Yamuna body rolling.
I met so many new friends and the most common question I was asked was Are there kangaroos everywhere in Australia?!
At the end of the six weeks I was offered a full scholarship to attend the Year Round Program which I will be starting in September.

A Day with the Stars
I t was a sunny Sunday morning when stars and students alike gathered together for a day of dance at La Dance Studios Penrith. Our stars were Marilyn Jones, Kit Lethby and Kathleen Hamilton, the students ranging in ages from 8-15years, were from many parts of Sydney and as far away as Bathurst and the Central Coast.
65 young dancers attended the day which was divided between 8/9 yrs, 10/11 yrs, 12/13 yrs and 14/15 yrs. There was a general buzz of excitement as the groups assembled for their one hour ballet class to be followed by an hour of Repertoire. The ballet classes, taught in turn, by Kathleen, Kit and Marilyn offered to the students the chance to dance in front of, listen to and learn from the wisdom of these stars. In the Repertoire class the students felt like ‘real dancers’ as they learned and performed such roles as the Doll from Coppelia, led by Marilyn, the Little Cygnets from Swan lake, led by Kathleen, while Kit’s students danced Swanhilda’s entrance and solo from Act 1 Coppelia.
Both students and their parents were delighted with the day. The students showed it through their enthusiasm and active participation and the smiles on their faces as we chatted with them. Comments from the parents included:
"“I can’t believe my daughter is having a lesson with Marilyn Jones, she was my ballet idol and seeing her again today, she still is.”"
“"Kit is so wonderful; I could listen and watch him all day. I just hope my daughter heeds his wise advice.”"
“"My daughter just finished her class with Kathleen. She said to me, I wish I could have a lesson with her every week, she is such a good dancer.”"
"“What a wonderful opportunity for these young people."

The day was a great success. It is hoped that in the future we can present “A Day with the Stars” in other parts of Sydney, the Central Coast and Bathurst / Orange Region.

Welcome to the Australian Institue of Classical Dance's new website!
The Institute is proud to present its new website, allowing its members to engage with the latest news and information relating to AICD and its work across Australia.
It is hoped that in the future the AICD will communicate with its members by the internet more than by surface mail thus making it easier for teachers and students to see what events will be happening throughout the year. As well the newsletters from each state on the events held there.
It will be quicker and more simple to access information about our International scholarships, choeographic events, and assessment and examination information.
